Individuality, ingenuity, and creativity form the undercurrent for this year’s fall fashion color trends. Designers and consumers alike are pushing at boundaries to showcase their unique sense of style.
Often personalities are expressed via color choices.
The Pantone Fashion Color Trend Reportnoted that the color trends for fall/winter 2020 show “a strong focus on self-expressive colors that evade antiquated seasonal structure.”
The fall fashion color trends this year alternate warm autumnal tones with vibrant hues not typically associated with fall.
This warm hue is a classic autumn color. The shade that Pantone calls “meerkat” is a toasty, burnished brown.
The color was shown on the runway on its own or as a part of a variety of prints. Alberta Ferretti made excellent use of Meerkat in her beautiful fall collection.
Vogue calls it “cherry red” while Pantone describes it as “valiant poppy”. Whatever you prefer to call it, fall fashion color trends are all about this bright and outgoing hue that is for the bold.
The shade is optimal for luxe finishes like velvet, tulle, and satin to create elegant retro-inspired looks. Valentinoused Valiant Poppy to dramatic effect in their fall 2020 show.
This is the color of many social networks, leading some to call it “digital blue.” This color that Pantone has dubbed “Nebulas Blue” evokes the future.
Tech lovers will be drawn to this cutting-edge cyber inspired shade. Tibi paired this shade of blue with a bright orange coat and white boots to create a look with a color combo Gauguin would approve of.
This bright and vivid color is prominent in several designers’ fall collections and just had to make our list of fall fashion color trends.
Worn head-to-toe to convey an exuberant look or used sparingly for details, this color is not for the meek. Valentino used the color head-to-toe in this fabulous ensemble from his collection.
It is pretty much a given that orange is a fall color. This year’s shade, however, evokes bright pumpkins rather than dull fall leaves.
This vibrant color will push back hard against dropping temperatures, bringing visual warmth to the eyes. Stella McCartney playfully uses this bright orange shade with a leopard print to create this bold skirt and top look.
Bringing the color intensity down a bit, olive green is a subdued shade that has a more golden tone than military green.
Smooth and sophisticated olive (also referred to as martini) green adds depth to the fall fashion color trends.
Alexander McQueen’s sophisticated look beautifully pairs olive green with a field green.
This basic fall color is a perfect base for any outfit. The natural creamy hue aptly called “tofu” is autumn’s version of summer’s white.
Wear this color alone for a classic look or use it to tone down one of the more vibrant shades listed above.
Alexander McQueen shows how luxurious the fall fashion color tofu can be when used with a variety of luxury fabrics and finishes. This head-to-toe ensemble in tofu is both classic and eye-catching all at once.
