Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino has opened in Messenia, in the southwest Peloponnese, marking the luxury hospitality group’s first foray into Greece. The resort is the newest addition to the region’s Costa Navarino development, which also includes The Romanos, a Luxury Collection Resort, The Westin Resort, Costa Navarino, and W Costa Navarino.

Ninety-nine suites and villas come with spacious terraces or private pools, as well as warm living areas that echo the property’s surroundings. Five restaurants and bars are overseen by executive chef, Bertrand Valegeas, with flavours from around the world including authentic Greek cuisine at Oliviera, and Levantine specialties at Tahir.

The resort’s spa is equipped with several facilities designed to offer a peaceful respite from modern distractions, with a range of treatments complemented by a 25-metre, indoor-outdoor swimming pool, a hammam, cold bath, and herbal sauna.

Guests can head to the beach club for activities such as paddleboarding and water-skiing or try one of Mandarin Oriental’s local experiences, which include olive oil tastings, traditional cooking classes, and visits to historic landmarks. An 18-hole golf course surrounds the resort, with three other nearby courses also available for golfers.

Design notes

Tombazis & Associates and K-Studio worked on the design, which draws on bioclimatic principles and green living concepts. Locally sourced materials were used in the build, with design inspiration said to be taken from the region’s agricultural traditions and rich cultural heritage.

All accommodations have been built to make the most of the resort’s location overlooking Navarino Bay, with sheltered suites and villas that subtly blend into the Mediterranean landscape.
