The Langham, Customs House, Bangkok will open in 2026 in the soon-to-be-revitalised Bang Rak District, an area with significant cultural and historical relevance to Bangkok
Langham Hospitality Group (LHG) has announced the 2026 opening of The Langham, Customs House, Bangkok, on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River in the city’s historic Bang Rak District. This development will see the restoration and transformation of the 1888-built Customs House – a neo-Palladian landmark designed by Joachim Grassi – into a luxury hotel.
Once a key gateway to Thailand, Customs House has a rich and regal history, having hosted royal family soirées and even the return of Rama V from his travels across Europe. The new hotel will honour the Renaissance era of what was then known as Siam by blending traditional Thai elements with the building’s Western architectural features. The restoration will highlight the building’s historical importance, retaining key elements such as its teak floors, grand central staircase and impressive four-story hallway. Adjacent to the historic structure will be a newly-built building housing 78 guest rooms, offering expansive views of the Chao Phraya River and the city skyline.
The hotel will also introduce some of The Langham‘s signature experiences, including an outpost of T’ang Court, a Michelin three-star Cantonese restaurant originally from Hong Kong. Guests will also have access to a destination bar, a pastry outlet known for its world-class creations, and The Langham’s signature Chuan Spa, renowned for its holistic wellness treatments rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Langham Hospitality Group has a history of developing hotels that balance historical preservation with luxury. Similar heritage projects include The Langham, Boston, which occupies a former Federal Reserve Bank building, The Langham, Chicago, located in an iconic Mies van der Rohe-designed structure, and The Langham, Pasadena, a property steeped in Hollywood history that dates back to 1907. The company has additionally broken ground on a project in Venice, Italy, centred on restoring an old glass factory on Murano Island.
“The Langham, Customs House, Bangkok exemplifies our strategy of incorporating cultural preservation into hotel development while concurrently creating unparalleled experiences for guests and the communities in which we operate,” stated LHG’s CEO, Bob van den Oord.
The debut of The Langham, Customs House, Bangkok is part of a broader vision to revitalise the Bang Rak District, an area with significant cultural and historical relevance to Bangkok. The Langham, Customs House, Bangkok will open in 2026.
