Bali reigns supreme as flight bookings for the island soar
New data from Webjet indicates that Australians’ love affair with Bali shows no signs of waning. Flight bookings to the popular Indonesian destination have surged by a staggering 45 per cent year-on-year, outstripping Fiji, Phuket and Koh Samui and cementing it as the number one international destination for Australians this winter.
The island’s dry season of June to August has long been the tourist high season, attracting Australians eager to escape the cold weather, and 2024 is no different. Webjet bookings for July and August are 95 higher than those for September and October.
The data from the popular travel booking site also suggests the the demographic profile of Australian travellers to Bali is shifting. While older Australians (over 55s) are showing a declining interest – accounting for just 22 per cent of bookings this season, down from 37 per cent last year – families are making up the difference. Family bookings have skyrocketed by 71 per cent, indicating that Bali’s plethora of family-friendly resorts is more appealing than ever.
Flights to Bali account for 24 per cent of all international flight bookings on Webjet this year – 158 per cent higher than Fiji, 169 per cent higher than Phuket and 194 per cent higher than Koh Samui.
