Hamilton Island’s latest boutique hotel offers family-friendly luxury and scenic views overlooking the Coral Sea
Hamilton Island Enterprises, known for the luxury resort qualia, has announced the opening of a new boutique hotel, The Sundays, in the heart of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. Scheduled to open in Autumn 2025, The Sundays will be at the northern end of Catseye Beach, offering 59 rooms designed to capture the tropical essence and blue water views of Hamilton Island.
The hotel aims to provide a family-friendly environment with rooms featuring serene colour schemes and options for balconies or terraces overlooking the Coral Sea and the hotel’s gardens. Interconnecting rooms will also be available, making it convenient for families.
Guests can enjoy private cabanas around an exclusive pool and dine alfresco at a water’s-edge restaurant and bar with views of Catseye Bay.
Pete Brulisauer, CEO of Hamilton Island, highlighted the significance of this new venture, marking over 20 years of investment in Hamilton Island by the Oatley family.
He stated, “The Sundays is inspired by the essence of a relaxing Sunday, fostering connections and embracing nature. It will offer extraordinary experiences for all ages amidst the breathtaking beauty of The Whitsundays.“
Hamilton Island has seen a rise in domestic travellers seeking luxury tropical escapes without the hassle of international flights, thanks to its accessibility from major Australian East Coast cities. International travellers also continue to visit, attracted by iconic locations like Whitehaven Beach and Heart Reef.
The $30 million project adds to the $400 million already invested in Hamilton Island’s facilities and infrastructure since the Oatley family’s acquisition in 2003.
Sandy Oatley, Chairman of Hamilton Island Enterprises, noted, “We are responding to our guests’ requests for more family-focused boutique accommodation. The Sundays will enhance Hamilton Island’s reputation as one of Australia’s most iconic holiday destinations.”
The Sundays will complement Hamilton Island’s existing accommodation options, including the luxury resort qualia, the boutique beachfront hotel Beach Club, and the family-friendly Reef View Hotel and Palm Bungalows. Reservations for The Sundays will open in Spring 2024.
Hamilton Island, the Southern Hemisphere’s largest integrated island resort, offers a variety of accommodation options, dining experiences, and over 65 tours and activities. The island is easily accessible via direct flights from major Australian cities and direct boat transfers from the Queensland mainland.
Hamilton Island is a gateway to the Great Barrier Reef and The Whitsundays are also known for their whale heritage site, hosting thousands of humpback whales annually. With numerous nature trails and secluded hideaways, guests can explore Hamilton Island’s natural beauty.
