The University of Yale has created an Index of Environmental Performance ( IEP ), which is used in order to determine how ecological a country is. Every year, researchers create a top of the most Eco-friendly countries, according to 25 criteria like environmental impact, air, water and so on. Although we haven’t made a top according to the IEP scale, but rather according to our personal preferences, here are the other five Eco-friendly countries.
AUSTRIA: Austria has found different ways to become more environmental friendly. For example, with the occasion of the Winter Olympics, they built a “passive building” to host the Olympic Committee. Many efforts to preserve the landscape have been made, and Austria is known for its pristine slopes, and beautifully preserved mountains and hills. The Capital of Austria is number two in the Environmental Performance Chart. Another great thing about this place is that it is extremely cheap!
NEW ZEELAND: This is a destination which few would dare consider. The good news is that you don’t need 20 years of savings to visit this magnificent land. British airlines offer very reasonable prices for tickets, and considering that you will be flying over 10.000 kilometers, 1400 euro isn’t that much. If you are prepared to make this financial sacrifice, you should know that New Zeeland is a natural paradise. You might already know some of the places because the trilogy, Lord of the Rings, was filmed here, but reality will surely exceed your expectations.
LATVIA: For such a small country, Latvia has managed some pretty extraordinary things. For example it is one of the few states which continues to reduce the harmful substance emission. The funny thing is that forests and marshes occupy almost half of the country’s total surface, and works as a filter for Carbon dioxide. Riga, the capital city, is also considered the most Eco-friendly and cleanest European city. There are a lot of reasons to visit Riga, like the beguiling character of the city, the interesting traditions, and interesting people.
LUXEMBOURG: Although it did not make it last year in the Top 10 according to Yale’s Chart, the authorities in the country were extremely motivated to obtain the maximum score in environment protection. This means that, at present, the water and air are extremely clean and healthy. In terms of habitat and bio-diversity, the country has obtained maximum scores.
COLUMBIA Luxurious white sandy beaches, beautiful coastlines, incredible forests and Eco-friendly adventures can be found in this environmentally protective paradise. There is not much to say about this natural paradise.
